Kristen was a competitive athlete playing volleyball among some of the best teams in the country. However, throughout her nine-year athletic career Kristen was plagued with sprained ankles, rotator cuff issues, torn cartilage and meniscus in the knee. Being no stranger to pain, muscle weakness, or joint instability she searched out alternative means such as Chiropractic care and Acupuncture.
Kristen's desire to help people continue to do the activities they love led her to pursue Acupuncture school at the prominent Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. While attending the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) Kristen was introduced through a friend to Muscle Activation Technique. The Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) program is an intensive internship that requires competency in the areas of biomechanics, kinesiology, physiology, and an in-depth knowledge of the muscular system. After researching the program and its results Kristen decided to pursue Muscle Activation Technique full-time.
MAT is a biomechanically based system of checks and balances that helps to address muscular weakness and joint instability in the body. Through range of motion and muscle testing we are able to identify what areas of the body have lost the ability to contract. Re-establishing the ability for the muscle to communicate with the brain allows for increased joint stability and increased muscular strength.
MAT compliments other modalities such as chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy and therapeutic massage. Kristen witnessed how MAT could help people of all ages and activity levels live a happier, more functional lifestyle. Kristen received her certification in Muscle Activation Technique in 2009 and is excited to be one of the few specialists in Southern California.
